About Miami’s

125th Anniversary

The purpose of Miami 125 is to honor 125 years of history and to envision Miami’s next hundred years and beyond.

Miami 125’s programs and events focus on the many milestones and people that have shaped our community’s vibrant and rich history, telling the story of how Miami developed from a sleepy outpost at the onset of the year 1896 to become the gateway to the Latin American and beyond.

Miami 125 is a celebration filled with education for residents to learn about where they live, and for visitors to gain a greater appreciation for the city filled with fun in the sun!

This initiative honors the Magic City’s neighborhoods, from downtown to Liberty City to Coconut Grove, and celebrates the diversity within the City’s 55 square mile area.

Programs and events will explore Little Haiti, Little Havana, Little San Juan, Little Santo Domingo and more! Events honoring Miami’s 125th milestone will span the entire anniversary year and offer beautiful opportunities to tour the Magic City’s significant cultural venues, beautiful parks and architectural gems.

In addition, this initiative will assemble a virtual time capsule kept at City Hall to be opened in the year 2121.  Please join us in this wonderful opportunity to celebrate everything Miami!

Mayor's Message

Miami 125 is a tremendous opportunity to celebrate that which brings us all together, a shared sense of pride for where we call home. Together, we will mark this important milestone and the founding of our world class city. As we reflect on our rich history, and look toward the future, we do so with the understanding that we cannot truly embrace the future without first honoring the past. It is in this spirit that we proudly announce a full week of events throughout the city from July 26th through July 31st, designed to pay tribute to the trailblazers in our community while also honoring those who have chosen to embrace the future through social activism and entrepreneurial innovation.

As your Mayor, I invite you to join us in celebrating the cultural diversity and heritage of our wonderful city. After all, it’s not every day that 305 turns 125.
